Why is this medication prescribed?

Acebutolol is in a group of drugs called beta-blockers. It is used in the treatment of high blood pressure and abnormal heart rhythms.

Beta blockers decrease the force and rate of heart contractions, thus reducing pressure within the circulatory system.

When used to treat high blood pressure, it is effective used alone or in combination with other high blood pressure medications, particularly with a thiazide-type diuretic.
